To whom it may concern: “A Bride’s Choice Photo” is becoming Joe Meadows Photo A few years ago I received a letter starting out like this from my Dentist who was about to retire. “With deep sorrow, and great regret I have decided to retire.” I had always enjoyed and trusted his advice, and consul, along with top notch Dentistry, so I thought it might be a way to end the long journey as a Wedding Photographer. Since 1985 I had the wonderful pleasure be able to share this special day with hundreds of you. After June 1st, 2012 I will no longer be accepting commissions as a wedding photographer, except on a very limited scale. I wanted to take the time to thank each and every one of you for helping me do what I love to do, Make Photographs. I have been deeply touched by the tender moments, and great appreciation you have given me over the years, and all of your Thank You notes kept me going. It has been quite a ride though. Living the life of a photographer was my dream for the past 35 years. Although many of you know I was trained as a commercial photographer, and I kind of fell into shooting weddings to supplement that income. As Ted Ward, my commercial photography mentor said “You have to wear many hats to make it as a photographer.” Ted passed away suddenly 22 years ago. I wonder what he would say today with digital cameras that record so quickly they literally are video like still images. When Ansel Adams coined the phrase, “I don’t take pictures, I make photographs” or something to that effect, I wonder what he would think today? But I am not retiring from photography just yet, just weddings.
